Homes for Sale in Lubbock

Home-Based Businesses on the Rise.

By Susie Stell (excerpted from an article in the Vintage Times)

Many people are enjoying the home life more, as well as the idea of staying home - especially working from home.  In fact, it’s estimated that 4.2 million Americans are working predominantly from the home and a recent Gallup Poll has indicated that 61 percent of Americans have a preference to be their own boss. That would indicate a likely interest in starting a business. A great place for that is right at home.

A home-based business is an excellent option for those who are technologically savvy, free-spiritedand enjoy having control of their time. It is also a great option for women who have small children.

"You've Got Mail!"

Better technology is making working at home more convenient.  The internet easily makes information from all over the world available just a few clicks away.  You can analyze stocks at any time, research any topic, find resources for all sorts of needs and services, and stay on top of current news, discoveries, and developments.

The internet has also enabled many home-based businesses to flourish.  If you own an internet business and are strategic with your web marketing you can gain as much attention as national retailers and marketers, right from your livingroom.   With the internet one can even work at home for a company out of state or out of the country by logging on and conducting business on-line.

We're Talkin' 'Bout Freedom

A big reason for more and more people wanting to work at home is for the freedom and flexibility it offers.  You can work at whatever hour of the day you want to and come and go as you please.  You are your own boss and supervisor of your time.

Women are enjoying the “best of both worlds” in that they can be a stay-at-home mom and take care of their little ones, and can also be a working professional.  Many women choose to work at home because it is the only way to stay connected with their families, with the need for two incomes and the complex work and extracurricular schedules.  Moms want to work, be at home with their kids, take the kids to sporting events and watch their kids.  That's part of the appeal for people looking at Vintage Township for Lubbock TX homes for sale.

Productivity and Quality of Life

Increased productivity is a likely outcome, due to the fact that one is not engrossed in the lengthy corporate meetings, the commute time going to and from work, and the distractions and interruptions that can happen in an office environment.  This rise in productivity is parallel with the rise in job satisfaction and contentment.

Vintage Township is a great spot for a home-based business as zoning laws for this neighborhood allow for the creation of a home office.  An excellent place to create a special work place is in a “granny flat,” which is an extra apartment-sized, and finished-out, space developed over the garage.  In the future, Vintage will offer live/work units in our two town centers.  Here, a resident can work out of the shop space on the first level and actually live in the home space created in the upper floors!

It May be Something to Consider

Of course, as with any other business, a home-based business needs proper zoning approval and a business license. Just call the city clerk for information.  If you plan on running a business from your home that will have no employees and no walk-up trade, zoning questions may never arise. Problems with zoning laws could occur with home-based businesses that deal with the public or that have non-family-member employees who work out of your home.
